Assessment & Evaluation – FAQ (Pranaah Child Development Centre, Kollam)

How do I know if my child needs evaluation?

You should consider an evaluation if your child shows signs of speech delay, poor eye contact, behaviour issues, hyperactivity, learning difficulties, sensory concerns, delayed milestones, emotional issues, or struggles in school. Early evaluation helps identify challenges and begin the right therapy at the right time.

What should I do if I do not know which therapy is most appropriate for my child?

You don’t need to decide the therapy yourself. Our team will first conduct a detailed developmental assessment, observe your child, and understand your concerns. Based on the results, we will recommend the most suitable therapy or combination of therapies.

What do I need to bring for evaluation of my child?

Bring the following:

  • Previous medical or therapy reports (if any)

  • School notebooks or teacher feedback

  • Birth and medical history details

  • Snacks or a water bottle for younger children

  • Any toys or comfort items your child likes

How long is your report valid?

Assessment reports are generally valid for 12–24 months, depending on the child’s age and developmental needs. Younger children may require updated assessments more frequently due to rapid developmental changes.

Do you provide therapy services to very young children?

Yes. Pranaah offers therapy for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers through our Early Intervention Program. This includes Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Behaviour Therapy, Play Therapy, and Parent Coaching designed specifically for children aged 0–6 years.

What is an "Assessment"?

Assessment is a structured process where trained professionals evaluate your child’s development, behaviour, communication, motor skills, learning ability, and emotional wellbeing. It may include standardised tests, developmental checklists, parent interviews, and play-based observation.

How long does assessment take?

Most assessments take 1–3 hours, depending on your child’s age and the type of evaluation required (speech, behaviour, occupational therapy, psychological assessment, or developmental screening).

Can I bring other children/ siblings to the assessment session?

It is recommended not to bring other children, as the assessment requires focus and a calm environment. If unavoidable, please inform our team in advance so we can assist accordingly.

Should both parents attend the assessment session?

Ideally, yes. Both parents can provide valuable information regarding their child’s behaviour, milestones, and daily routines. If only one parent can attend, that is perfectly fine.

Do I get a report after assessment and can I submit it to my child's school?

Yes. Pranaah provides a detailed assessment report, including findings, recommendations, and therapy plans. These reports are accepted by most schools, paediatricians, and therapy centres.

Will the therapist discuss findings with parents after assessment?

Yes. After the assessment, the therapist will provide a comprehensive feedback session, explaining the results, your child’s strengths, areas needing support, and the recommended therapy plan. You will also receive guidance on what to do at home. And moreover our chief clinical interventionist will explain you about the further interventions.
